Know?
1. Having the names changed for
several times, a Gubernatorial
Decree issued in March 6th,
1974 officially declared the
name Sunda Kelapa for this port
area.
2. The port has been existed since
the 5th century during the rule
of Tarumanegara Kingdom. In
12th century, the possession
was transferred to the Sunda
Kingdom.
3. The port declined in prominence
in early 19th century, due to
water shallowing around the
harbour area, prevented the
ships to anchor out. The Dutch
government later built and
developed a new port, the
Tanjung Priok port.
4. Several remainders around the
port area were set into
museums, such as Bahari
Museum, Fatahillah Museum,
and Wayang Museum.
5. Today, the port only provides
Sunda Kelapa inter-island shipping services.
