Giant Ondel-ondel at

Jakarta’s Anniversary

Celebration

To celebrate Jakarta’s 494th anniversary, numbers
of 4.94 meter-tall ondel-ondels (giant Betawi
effigies) were showcased in an exhibition at Taman
Ismail Marzuki area, Jakarta, on June 22nd 2021. The
exhibition was initiated by the artist council of Amir
Hamzah Mosque, in collaboration with Jakarta Sigap
Senusa foundation and support from one of city-
owned enterprises, PT. Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro).
Around 25 craftsmen in Jakarta were involved in the
making of those ondel-ondels.
