waste produced (53%) were organic waste.
Based on that fact, Head of the Agency’s Community
Participation Section, Agung Pujo Winarko said
participation of every community is needed in
order to control waste production. Hence, the waste
transported to the Integrated Waste Treatment Area
(TPST) Bantargebang in Bekasi will only consist of
non-recyclable waste. Besides, it will cut down the
transport and disposal fee, too.
According to a result of waste management study,
allocation fee given for transporting and disposing
waste in big cities reaches 70-80% from the total
fee provided for city waste management system. In
Jakarta alone, the total could reach 1 billion rupiahs
per day.

Starts from Community Units Level
In accordance with Gubernatorial Regulation
No.77/2020 on Waste Management in RW (community
units) level, people in RWs of Jakarta has been
involved to manage waste produced in households.
The city environment agency arranged groups of
people under the RW level leadership who will be in
charge to control waste management in their areas:
waste produced in households should be sorted in
four different types of waste:organic, non-organic,
hazardous and toxix (B3) and residues. Waste that are
considered to have economic value can be recycled
and benefited as new items. For example, organic
waste can be used as fertilizer, non-organic waste
such as plastic bottles can be used and recycled as
new items.
