Historic masterplan, a study and
implementation to control floodings in Jakarta

Year

1619 Seaside city concept of Batavia from the VOC.

Land acquisition in the upstream area (Puncak) for
1654 tea plantation. The first flood reported was in VOC
government era.

Establishment of Dep. van Verkeer and Waterstaat or
1854 the public transportation and public works department.

1873 Flood occured causing 1 meter high puddle.

1897 Proposal made to build BKB and BKT flood canals.

1922 The construction of BKB began.
A Command of Flood Control Project in Jakarta
1965 Raya, collected in a book of Master Pattern of DCI
Irrigation System in Jakarta Raya, in 1965-1985.

Flood Control Project in Jakarta Raya (1972), in
1973 cooperation with the Dutch government, resulted in
a flood control masterplan.

Comprehensive River Water Management Plan in
1997 Jabodetabek (1997) in cooperation with the Japan
government, resulted in a flood control masterplan.

A flood estimated to be the worst in 17 century
2002 occured this year.
2003 The construction of BKT began.

Flooding occured, estimated to be the worst in
Jakarta. Jakarta Integrated Flood Management
2007 Programe was held, in cooperation with the Dutch
government and resulted in a flood control master-
plan.

2008 Flood occured.

2009 River dredging program funded by the World Bank.
2010- Annual floodings occured with various effects.
2020
