overnor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan can
now heave a sigh of relief. His efforts to
G meet President Joko Widodo’s target of
distributing the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination to
7.5 million people have paid off. “Alhamdulillah, we
are one month ahead of the schedule target that
has been set,” said Anies gratefully.
th
Until August 9 2021, Jakarta Health Agency has
recorded as many as 8.5 million people had been
vaccinated the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in
Jakarta. It means that Jakarta had reached 95.2
percent of the total target set, which is 8,941,211
people. “The remaining 4.8 percent had not been
vaccinated,” explained Anies.
As we know, COVID-19 vaccination program in
Jakarta is intended for four groups: residents who
have Jakarta ID card, people who work in Jakarta,
who live and study in Jakarta. “The high mobility in
Jakarta requires us to vaccinate everyone who does
their activities in the city,” said Anies.
Despite having completed Jokowi’s target, Anies
admitted that there are still many residents with
Jakarta ID cards who have not been vaccinated.
Therefore, he will continue to work fast to ensure that
all residents living and doing activities in Jakarta
are vaccinated. “We will not stop at this point,” said
Anies.
In fact, COVID-19 vaccination is now an administrative
requirement for residents to do activities in Jakarta.
This policy is supported by scientific research which
shows that vaccines are able to reduce the risk of
severity and death from COVID-19.
Anies admitted that vaccines cannot prevent
people from being infected with corona virus, but
it can at least reduce the risk of severe symptoms
and death. It’s proven right, seen from those people
with Jakarta ID cards who have been vaccinated
at least the first dose, only 2.3 percent are infected.
