 A “Giant Bowl”



 That Is Prone to Disasters



 Besides flooding, the city of Jakarta also prone to have earthquake,
 landslide, epidemic and residential fire.



                                                                  akarta is under big threat of disasters for its
                                                                  geographic, geological and demographic
                                                             Jstatus. Refers to its geomorphology status,
                                                             Jakarta is a lowland located in the center of a
                                                             giant  bowl  called  Jakarta  Bay.  Almost  40%  of
                                                             the city area is lowland with an average altitude
                                                             below the sea level. Moreover, there are 13 rivers
                                                             passing  through the  city  and flows  to the  bay
                                                             that makes Jakarta more vulnerabel to natural
                                                             disasters, especially flooding.

                                                             But flooding is  not the only  risk  for Jakarta.
                                                             According to Disaster Mitigation Plan in Jakarta
                                                             (2017), there are nine potential risks of disaster
                                                             that the city  has, including floodings, extreme
                                                             weather, extreme waves, earthquakes and
                                                             landslides.

                                                             Jakarta is also  at risk  of unnatural and social
                                                             disasters, like social conflicts, technology
                                                             failures, building and residential fires, epidemic
                                                             and outbreaks. It was recorded that Jakarta
                                                             once had malaria, dysentry and cholera
                                                             outbreak in 1732—when the city was still called
                                                             Batavia.

                                                             Up until now, endemic disease like dengue fever
                                                             is yet a serious threat for people of Jakarta. In
                                                             fact, the authorities had many times declared
                                                             the status for the disease as Extraordinary
                                                             Occurrence (KLB). Today, the city has been
